Support and guidance
for your future

Most of our Sixth Form students go on to higher education. Our careers and higher education staff are able to give advice on course choice, the UCAS application process, application tests, gap years and student finance. As well as Careers and Higher Education Co-ordinators, we have staff with specific responsibility for Oxbridge entry, community service, and for co-ordinating visits and interaction with business and the professions – all of which can help as you make decisions about your future career path.

In Year 12, you will be encouraged to take the Centigrade test. This can help confirm course choices and suggest possible alternatives. It can help focus your mind if you are at all uncertain.

If you wish to apply to Oxford or Cambridge, we give you extensive advice and support during the application process. We have a good Oxbridge record with approximately 10-12 per cent of Year 13 leavers gaining places.

From the start of Year 12, we encourage you to research courses and check the entry profiles on the UCAS website to ensure you have the correct entry requirements in terms of grades, points, entry tests and work experience. We provide you with mock interview opportunities and help prepare you for university entry tests.

We also organise a series of visiting speakers from various professions and give advice to those deferring university entry or choosing not to go on to higher education.

“The school is proud of its many academic successes  where the majority of our sixth form students go on to study at university, with many securing places at their first choice university. Notable achievements this year, which has been the most competitive ever, include the following:

  • 82% of those that applied to a Russell Group University secured a place,
  • Almost 70% of those that applied to medicine were offered at least one place, compared with about 40% nationally.
  • 100% of our students offered a place at either Oxford or Cambridge achieved their required grades and will take up their places this autumn.”
